Aberystwyth University was founded in 1872 and was the first university in Wales. Aberystwyth University is the only university in the UK to offer every student a year’s work placement as part of their degree, leading to a better than average employability level, and there are currently 9,500 students enrolled.
Aberystwyth has one of the largest graduate schools for international relations in the world, with over 150 Master’s and PhD students enrolled. Aston University is lively, welcoming and cosmopolitan campus based university situated in the centre of Birmingham, the second largest city in the UK. City, University of London is located in Islington, north London. The University was founded in 1894 as the Northampton Institute and was awarded full university status in 1966. It established the first aeronautical laboratory in the UK 100 years ago and now runs the world’s largest Masters course for the air transport industry.
City, University of London has one of the highest proportions of postgraduate students of any UK university. Most of the courses at undergraduate level include a work placement, offering a fantastic opportunity for students to gain work experience while they study. Edinburgh Napier University gained full university status in June 1992 and currently has around 12,500 students enrolled. The University is largely located in Edinburgh’s east end, in buildings ranging from castles to old schools. Edinburgh Napier has a strong reputation for film education in partnership with the Edinburgh College of Art.

The University of Exeter was founded in 1955, although its complete history dates back as far as 1900. Heriot-Watt University is the eighth oldest higher education institution in the UK and originated as the School of Arts of Edinburgh, the world’s first mechanics institute, in 1821. In 1966 it became a university by Royal Charter. More than a third of Heriot-Watt’s 7,000 Edinburgh campus students are from outside the UK and this international focus is also demonstrated by the 10,000 students from 150 different countries worldwide studying on its international programmes.

Keele University was the first new UK university of the 20th century and was founded to promote interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary scholarship. Keele pioneered the Dual Honours degree, which is still taken by around 70% of students. Single honours degrees are also available, as is a multi-disciplinary foundation year.

The University of Plymouth is one of the largest universities in the UK, with over 23,000 students, including around 2,000 international students from over 100 countries, enrolled. It can trace its roots back to the Plymouth School of Navigation, founded in 1862 and was formally given full university status in 1992.
Plymouth was awarded the Queen's Anniversary Prize in 2012 for its worldwide reputation for marine and maritime education and research and 11 subjects were recently rated among the top ten in the UK for student satisfaction. It is currently the only post-1992 university to have its own medical school, and has strong partnerships with other universities and institutions in the south west. Queen Mary, University of London is the third largest college of the University of London, with the main based in the east of the city. It is a member of the Russell Group of research universities and has roots dating back to 1785. Queen Mary has the world’s largest academic health science centre, and is well known for medical teaching and research at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. Robert Gordon University is a modern university based in the Scottish city of Aberdeen. Although it was granted university status in 1992, it was founded as an educational institution in the mid 18th century. Robert Gordon has a strong focus on vocational degrees, and brands itself as ‘The Professional University’. It currently has a little over 16,000 students, of whom more than 1,000 are international, enrolled.
The focus on professional education is shown by the University’s leading graduate employment record. It has been rated as having the highest graduate prospects of any University several times in recent years, and remains top for modern universities. This is achieved through strong links with industry, particularly North Sea gas and oil companies, and year-long work placements that have become standard across all courses.

Sheffield Hallam University is one of the largest and most popular universities in the UK, with over 30,000 students from more than 100 countries enrolled. It is also regarded as one of the best modern universities in the north of England and has eight subjects ranked in the top 20 in the UK (The Times and Sunday Times University League Table). Sheffield Hallam is one of the UK's largest providers of health and social care courses, teacher training, and sport and physical activity courses.
Sheffield Hallam's courses are designed in consultation with industry experts and offer opportunities to undertake internships and consultancy projects. The University of Surrey is a campus university located in the town of Guildford in the southeast of England. The University has great connections to London, just 35 minutes away by train. Swansea University is based in South Wales and currently has around 20,000 students enrolled across two campuses. The Singleton Park campus was established in 1920 and is home to the Swansea University Medical School, College of Human and Health Sciences, College of Arts and Humanities, and the Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law. The Bay Campus opened in 2015 and is home to the College of Engineering, School of Management, and Computer Science.

The University of Westminster was formed from the Royal Polytechnic established in 1838. It is spread over four campuses, three of which are in central London.
